Morton Will Not Retire → 'Baltimore and 1 Year 15M'

Charlie Morton, 42, who is over the age of 40, has chosen to extend his career rather than retirement. Morton will head to the Baltimore Orioles.먹튀검증

The U.S. MLB Network said on Monday (Korea time) that Baltimore and Morton have agreed to a one-year, $15 million contract. This will be officially announced after the medical test.

As a result, Baltimore recruited a relatively stable veteran and successfully strengthened its starting lineup. Morton is a starting pitcher who can stably play in 30 games.

Morton will also be able to extend his career by one more year on the condition that his annual salary is not small at all. Chances are high that the 2025 season will be the last for Morton.

Morton, who is in his 17th year in the Major League, pitched 1,651/3 innings in 30 games for the Atlanta Braves last year, recording 8-10 with an ERA of 4.19. He had 167 strikeouts.

The biggest advantage is that he has played a stable starting rotation without any major injuries since 2018. He started more than 30 games every season except for the shortened season in 2020.

Still, Morton's pitching capability is alive. Morton threw an average of 94.3 miles of four-seam fastballs last year as well. He has enough speed to sustain himself as a starting pitcher.

His downside is that he walks a lot and hits a ball by himself. Even though he is a 42-year-old veteran player, he tends to collapse on his own. As a result, he has a high ERA.

Morton chose to extend his career rather than retire at the age of 40. Attention is focusing on whether he will be able to finish his career in Baltimore in 2025, which is likely to be his last year.
